Cardiac Efficiency and Contractile Function of In Situ Canine Left Ventricle

چکیده
This study tests the hypothesis that arterial vascular stiffening adversely influences in situ left ventricular contractile function and energetic efficiency. Ten reflex-blocked anesthetized dogs underwent a bypass operation in which a Dacron graft was sewn to the ascending aorta and connected to the infrarenal abdominal aorta via a plastic conduit. Flow was directed through either native aorta or plastic conduit by placement of vascular clamps. Arterial properties were measured from aortic pressure-flow data, and ventricular function was assessed by pressure-volume (PV) relations. Coronary sinus blood was drained via an extracorporeal circuit for direct measurement of myocardial 02 consumption (MVo2). Data at multiple steady-state preload volumes were combined to derive chamber function and energetics relations. Energetic efficiency was assessed by the inverse slope of the MVo2-PV area relation. Directing flow through plastic versus native aorta resulted in a 60-80% reduction in compliance but little change in

Postextrasystolic potentiation of the isolated canine left ventricle. Relationship to mechanical restitution.
We established, for the isolated, isovolumically beating canine left ventricle, a comprehensive description of postextrasystolic contractile strength (dP/dtmax) as a function of extrasystolic and postextrasystolic stimulus intervals. In contrast to previous studies of postextrasystolic beats in in situ hearts, these isolated ventricles contracted isovolumically so that dP/dtmax was not affected...

Background and Objectives: The aim of this study was to survey the relationship between the level of creatinine, cardiac troponins serum and the function of the left ventricle in patients with kidney insufficiency, without acute coronary syndrome. Materialsand Methods:The sample was150 patients with nondialysis chronic kidney disease without acute coronary syndrome, hospitalized at I...
متن کاملFunction of the in-situ papillary muscle in the canine left ventricle.
From strain gauge arches applied directly to the longitudinal surface of the papillary muscle of the canine left ventricle, its force of contraction was recorded simultaneously with that on an epicardial segment of the ventricle immediately overlying it. Left ventricular and atrial pressures, as well as ECG and local electrograms were also recorded in a closed-heart, open-chest preparation. Act...

Introduction: Cardiovascular abnormalities have been reported in liver cirrhosis (LC). In these patients, cardiac symptoms and physical signs occur as the liver functions worsen. Cirrhosis is associated with hyper dynamic circulation and beta-adrenergic system changes responsible for the cardiovascular abnormalities. The purpose of the present study was to explore the echocardiographic findi...
